Exploring Norwich Castle Museum

The Eureka group visited Norwich Castle Museum* on Friday 8th June. We didn't simply explore the museum; we really tried to explore how we see the space. In particular, we looked for 'hidden' things, like the graffiti in the Keep, as well as unusual viewpoints. Sometimes - as with the lovely hanging eggs - we just appreciated the straightforward beauty of the objects.

Here are some photos taken by Eureka members during the visit.

* Eureka members would like to thank NMAS for facilitating our visit and making us feel so welcome. Thanks!

Eureka Exhibition Launch

Colin Howey, thanking Eureka Folk for sharing their work
At last, the day had come. After all of that walking and looking; that discovering and learning and laughing - at last, we were ready to share our exhibition with friends, family and invited guests at The Base.

We had a room full of people and there was received overwhelmingly positive feedback about the exhibition. The recognition of the work of our Eureka group really meant a lot to everyone involved in the project.

The exhibition will be at The Base for a good while yet, so please do feel free to visit and see the work for yourself.

Finally, we chose the name 'Eureka' because it means 'to look again'. We wanted people to notice the everyday things and appreciate the wonder which surrounds us. However, I think that, in terms of our wellbeing, this project has helped us, both, to connect with our surroundings and with new friends. It has also helped us to look again at our own capacities and capabilities. Working together, we have surprised ourselves - look at what we have achieved.

Eureka!

Eureka Exhibition Slideshow

Here are some of the photographs members of Eureka Photography have taken; some of which will be selected to go into our exhibition. As well as this online gallery we will be setting up an exhibition in The Base in early October.

We hope you enjoy viewing our work as much as we have enjoyed collecting these images. It has been great meeting new people; learning together; walking and exploring; slowing down and noticing things; giving and sharing ideas.

Most of all, it has been amazing to share EUREKA MOMENTS!

Eureka! We're ready to roll...

Adult Learners Week starts today, so how appropriate that we should begin the first Eureka! photography project next Tuesday. It has been a bit of a white-knuckle ride at times, but through a combination of peoples' generosity, the support of The Base and some happy accidents, we are ready to go.

Talking of 'happy accidents': yesterday afternoon I was sitting discussing the project with John, the photographer who has offered his time and and skills to this project. We were spending ages mulling over final costings, and wondering how best to display the photos for the final exhibition. Suddenly, I saw a friend of mine, Andi Sapey, who just happens to be a professional photographer of some considerable standing. I called him over to our table, and he asked what we were up to. When he saw that we were fussing over the choice of frames he said something to the effect of:

"Forget frames. Go frameless. Let the focus be on the photograph, not the display"

Well, Eureka! moment or what!!

The word, I think, is serendipity; "an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident"

Thanks Andi!
