Green Places - St Giles Church Graveyard

Today, Eureka members visited the graveyard of St Giles church, near Norwich city centre. In particular, we had come to visit the wonderful parade of old wisteria, with a mind that, all too soon, the blossoms will fade, then fall. We were not to be disappointed...

However, when we walked around the back of the church, away from the road a world of wonder awaited us...

We were greeted by a lovely untended 'wild' area, verdant with trees and a variety of plants and flowers (we reject the idea that they could be called weeds!). It was also pleasing to hear the birdsong and the restrained rustle of wind-tickled leaves brushed by a gentle breeze...

Wandering, Camera in Hand

I was unable to join other Eureka members today, so - taking full advantage of the lovely weather towards the end of the day - I decided to take some photographs as I walked through Norwich, finding wonder as I wandered. Here are some of my pictures...

Eureka Visit Norwich Cathedral

Eureka members enjoyed their visit Norwich Cathedral last Friday. In particular, it was fantastic to welcome three guests who have been on the Eureka waiting list to come and join us. Norwich Cathedral is an extremely photogenic building and, as such, can lure you into taking those 'chocolate box' shots. As you know by now, our 'house style' tends towards the unusual and the quirky and that was reflected in our 'take' on this wonderful building...

Norwich South MP, Simon Wright, met with Eureka Photography members at The Base on Friday. He came to listen and learn about the benefits of being a part of this group. Among the many things we discussed was the effectiveness of the Five Ways to Wellbeing 'actions' in empowering us be proactive in improving and/or maintaining our mental health and bounce-back-ability.

We had a very constructive meeting and I think Simon was genuinely impressed with the success and achievements of everyone involved. Lots of examples of personal, social and artistic growth here.

No wonder we are all so proud to be Eureka members!

We didn't just take photos of, and with Simon - he also took photos of us

Eureka Visit - Norwich Assembly House

The Eureka members visited the Assembly House last Friday and had an excellent time exploring this impressive Eighteenth century building. We were made to feel very welcome by the friendly staff, and our thanks go to them for this. Above, you will see a slideshow of photos taken by two group members, Mamie and Colin.

Eureka in the News!

Eureka! members are really pleased following the really successful launch and promotion of our latest exhibition.  It was fantastic to get such positive coverage in the local press (see above). It made the point very clearly that Eureka members  are people brought together through positive creative activity. Some of us may have difficulties, challenges and experiences barriers, but we refuse to be defined by these. Furthermore, the group is open to people in a good place who want to help maintain that by investing in their mental health (I believe they call that, 'prevention'). Our 'model' works; and it works because attention to lots of little details that add up to more than the sum of their parts. More than anything though, it works because of the individual members of the group who enrich each other in so many ways. The ancient Greek word, 'eureka', means, 'to find it.' We have found it!
